Week one of the 2008 CGS Training Camp has come and gone, and with it some questions have been answered and some more have been unearthed. What is going to be the one division to keep your eye on? Who will be the new champion of FIFA 08? Did 3D.NY really improve their roster? These questions and many more will be answered in the coming weeks as we all look forward to some more great games and exciting matches. But for now I'm going to break down what I think were the more interesting moments thus far in the pre-season.
DOA4 Male Is Gonna Be Nuts!!!
Without a doubt, the competition which I am most looking forward to for the remainder of the pre-season as well as the regular season is DOA4 Male. I've been lucky enough to host the matches thus far and got to see all of them live, and let me tell you this is going to be an uber-competitive division this year. With the addition of PerfectLegend and NinjaCW, the competition level has without a doubt increased two-fold. Although all the guys may be friends outside of the game, or at least be on speaking terms, come June they will be in top form and ready to take names. Although I said this was a week 1 recap, I had to mention that PerfectLegend is living up to his name thus far as he absolutely cleaned OffBeat Ninjas clock in Week 2, winning 8-1. Could we be looking at the male counterpart of Vanessa? Only time will tell.
ComeBackDan & Dark-Storm Looking Strong
Without a doubt, 3D.NY has revamped their weakest divisions from last season and have perhaps assembled the new Jason X & Ch0mpr combo. Although we only have one week's worth of results to look at, I can say that I was very impressed with their ability to mesh and work as a team, even if it was only for 3 laps. With the scoring system having been altered to a 4-2-1 spread, Forza 2 will still prove to be a vital part of assembling a winning franchise, but it will not have the same impact as last season's PGR4 system.
Belle The Real Deal?
Having received a lot of flak from nearly everyone in the CGS for re-drafting belle, Jason Lake made a risky move in my eyes but is still confident in Megan's abilities. In week 1 she took on our very own Coolsvilla and dispatched her without a problem, 5-1. However, she followed this gargantuan performance up with a 5-1 loss to Mystik, can you say random? Not taking anything away from belle or her opponents, but I can safely say that I am confused as hell. All things considered I do believe belle is much improved since season 1 and will undoubtedly put up more of a fight and probably win more rounds in her first match then she won all of last season.
FIFA08 Is Gonna Be Tough
Having updated the game to a new version and added an incredibly defensive minded player in Eafra to the mix, FIFA 08 is looking like it will be low scoring affair here on out. With world-class level goalies, some of the players have had a much more difficult time putting the ball in the net. With only a handful of goals scored thus far in the pre-season, it is looking like the FIFA games are going to be kept close for the entire 90 minutes. It is very much a level playing field at the moment and seems to be still up in the air as to who will be crowned the new FIFA king. We have yet to see a lot out of Wizakor after he took it easy at the combine and sat out Week 1. Will his dominance continue or will a new champion be crowned?
3D.NY New & Improved?
Considered by many to have the best draft of 08, 3D.NY GM Dave "Moto" Geffon axed two of the CS:S members and brought in some new blood in the form of Juan and Nicknoit. With only a small amount of time to become acquainted, 3D.NY was thrown into the lions den in week one as they took on the undisputed current kings of counter-strike source, Complexity. In what was hyped up to be a rekindled rivalry of old, 3D had trouble stringing together solid rounds and were ultimately overwhelmed by a strong LA Squad to the tune of 10-4. However, fear not 3D.NY loyal as I'm sure the boys will do whatever it takes to make sure they don't repeat last year's mediocre performance. Although still in search of their first win, 3D has another crack at it tomorrow as they take on Chicago's Chimera Squad.
Can Vanessa Continue to Dominate?
By all means it looks thus far like Vanessa is the Vanessa of old and we have nothing to worry about here. However, I find it hard to believe that she can continue at this relentless pace of blanking her opposition. Having completed a tremendous first season, Vanessa was and still is regarded as the best DOA4 Female player and continues to adhere to this title so far. However, Season 2 is a little over a month away and if I were a betting man I'd say she had better not take her competition lightly this year as they will undoubtedly be improved from last year.
