Hi, my name is Matt “Wizakor” Wood and I’m the FIFA 07 player for 3D.NY. I recently competed in the Championship Gaming Series World Finals and won the title as the best FIFA 07 player worldwide in the CGS. I honestly don’t feel the title has really sunk in, but now I feel that next year everyone will be gunning for me and I’m going to have to train even harder to stay on top. The pressure will definitely be on me next season, but I’m no stranger to pressure. I definitely felt I had a lot to live up to after taking 1st Place at the CGS Combine and maintaining a top two placing throughout the CGS regular season. I really try not to think about the pressure and just try to show up and play my best every game. When I got home I celebrated my victory at the CGS World Finals but didn’t take too much time off because I was somewhat behind the curve with FIFA 08. I began playing and training with some of my old FIFA practice partners in an effort to really try to learn the ins and out of the game. When I’m not playing FIFA I’ve been playing a bit of COD4 on Xbox 360 with my friends, going to the movies and hanging out with friends. I was very fortunate that the CGS World Finals victory provided me with a rather nice $5,000 payday. I really needed a new laptop so I can practice anywhere that I might travel. I really felt left out last CGS season when I was the only person on the team who didn’t have one, but fortunately for me my roommate Andrew “Anomaly” Brock from the Chicago Chimera had a very nice Alienware laptop that we regularly abused playing hours and hours of FIFA. I’ve been training very hard the past few weeks trying to learn as much as possible about the new version of FIFA, but it’s difficult to really completely dedicate myself to FIFA 08 because I’m still not entirely sure if they are going to use FIFA 08 or are going to stick with FIFA 07. I think it’s a good idea if I keep playing FIFA 08 because it’s where all the players are and it will provide me the best practice possible. I also find playing the different versions of the EA NHL games helps me stay sharp in all sports games. My practice regimen for the upcoming season is going to be very strict and will probably be extremely time consuming. I’m going to practice probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 8+ hours per day and really try to refine and perfect my game. I know everyone is going to want to beat me this upcoming season and I can’t let that happen. I’ve learned a lot over this past season and I’m going to do my best to apply everything that I’ve learned to the different methods in which I practice and play. I’ve learned that you can never give up in any game, there’s always time to come back from any lead your opponent might have and always face your opponents the same way each and every game. The past few weeks have been interesting for me because I’ve been playing a lot of FIFA 08 and the game seems very random. The games are always low scoring ( 1-0, 2-1, 3-1 ) and the Goalies are incredibly strong. It’s very hard to finish up close and the preferred mode of scoring currently is trying to get players on breakaways. It’s still very early and every year the game starts out like this, last season I was very frustrated with FIFA 07 but once I figured it out it was very fun. I’ve found that my biggest strengths such as ball control and passing is much better in FIFA 08, so I’m really excited to see what I can accomplish. In closing I’d like to thank all the 3D.NY fans, my teammates and family for their amazing support, it’s really been great. I’d also like to give a special thanks to Dave for drafting me and giving me the chance to compete in the Championship Gaming series. Good luck to all the other FIFA players next season, it should be a very exciting year! - Matt "Wizakor" Wood |
